William Lueycoe Plummer

–

Bremerton, Washington

William Lueycoe and Henry Rosco Plummer (twins) were born to Mary Lou Hooks and John Leroy Plummer, the first of eight children, on October 15th 1927 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina; the decendants of Solomon Plummer, who was wounded in Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg, found by Union Troops, moved to the hospital in NewYork Harbor, healed and exchanged back to North Carolina.

The Twins attended various schools in Cabarrus County. When they were 13 years old, they had a 15-minute radio program at the Concord Radio Station. They were members of the Rocky River Presbyterian Church. They joined the Navy when they were 17, and learned ammunition handling. With their training complete, they were shipped to Bangor, Washington. He met Marlie McKay, and when the Twins' enlistment was up, Ross went back to NC and Luey stayed to start his family. Their children are Karla Jean, Gail Leslie, Dean William, and Kevin Leroy. In 1976, he and Marlie divorced.

He tried several different jobs, then found work at Puget Sound Laundry, and joined the Teamsters Union. He was assigned the area from Charleston and Central Kitsap. He arranged his schedule to be on Callow Avenue for coffee break so he could have coffee with Ora DeGarimore. They talked hunting, dogs, guns and guy stuff. He was an avid bird hunter and come September, the Yakima Valley called. He joined the Visalia Retriever Club and became one of their best gunners.

He was always a musician, and formed his own country-western dance band (The Country Gentlemen). He played at Bill's Inn at Kitsap Lake three nights a week and was in demand for special jobs, Elks, Eagles, Community Clubs. He was always ready for a good country jam.

On September 1, 1978, he married Linda Sue Haugen. In 1984, they started a new home on acreage in Waterman acting as their own contractors, doing what jobs they could and moved in 1986. Always the farmer, he bought a Kabota tractor and plowed a garden spot. Then started plowing for hire. He turned 62 in 1989 and nothing would do but to have an RV. (a brand new 34' Southwind). We tried to visit NC every other year or so. On our second or third trip, we spearheaded a Plummer Family Reunion, with lots of help, reserved County Park, and had a attendance of about 100.

He was a survivor of melanoma and basal cell carcinoma cancers and succumed to asbestosis and pneumonia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother Ross, and brother, Johnny Jr.; his sisters, Louise Yates and Agnes, and his son-in-law., Larry O'Grady.
