Vern Gaines

–

Poulsbo, Washington

Vern LeRoy Gaines, born on March 1, 1942 in Spokane, Washington, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026. Vern spent his childhood years in Spokane before moving to Seattle, Washington; Anchorage, Alaska; and Bainbridge Island, Washington. In his later years, he found his home in the beautiful town of Poulsbo, Washington, where he spent the last 35 years. A humble and loyal man, Vern was a dedicated salesperson in the office furniture industry until his retirement in 2003. His friends and colleagues remember him as someone who could always bring a smile to their faces with his funny anecdotes and jokes.

Vern was a loving father and grandfather. His children, Angela Meek (Adam) and Scott Gaines, and grandchildren, Tyler, Zachary, Olivia Meek, Charlie, Layla, and Dash Gaines, were the lights of his life. Vern was also fortunate to have a lasting friendship with his ex-wife, Bev Veterane.

Vern coached his son’s sports teams and also spent time playing softball, bowling, and golf. In his retirement years, he enjoyed attending and watching his grandkids sports and activities. He always showed up.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mona Thompson, and siblings, Dayle Bell, Alma Larkin, Harley “Bud” Gaines, Hazel Ford, Jim Gaines, and Lloyd Gaines. Vern's loving spirit, humble nature, and loyal friendship will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Vern's memory will live on in the hearts of all those he touched with his kindness and humor.

A celebration of life will be held on August 22, 2026. Here is a link: https://evite.me/uxGbWya1ch
