It is with deep sorrow and love that we mourn the passing of our charismatic patriarch, Tony Joo Young Kim, known affectionately as "Super Tony" to his friends and family. Born on July 11, 1939, in Pyeongchon, South Korea, Tony was a brave, loyal, and loving figure who forever etched his vibrant mark on the hearts of all those he encountered. Tony passed away on January 9, 2026, leaving behind an enduring legacy of love, resilience, and accomplishment.
Tony was raised in Masan, South Korea, and spent three years in the Korean Army after graduating high school. He then moved to Jinhae where he met and wed his wife of 53 years.
As a proud Korean immigrant, his journey to America in 1973 displayed his perseverance to overcome and adapt, leading him to various entrepreneurial endeavors, from a butcher shop in Honolulu, Hawaii, to a convenience store in Des Moines, Washington, and ultimately to a successful chain of dry-cleaning businesses in Bremerton and Belfair, Washington.
His determination, passion and self-confidence earned him respect and recognition, resulting in his collaboration with the Mayor of Bremerton in 1986, to proclaim that the last Saturday in September each year be forever recognized as Korean Day. Above Tony's many accomplishments, his most cherished was the raising of his family and the fulfilling life he built in America. Embodying the verse, "Well done, good and faithful servant!" (Matthew 25:21), Tony was an active member of the Bremerton Korean Presbyterian Church, where he held various leadership roles, eventually becoming an Elder.
Tony was an ardent sports enthusiast, holding a high school record in the 100-meter dash, a devoted fan of soccer, basketball, and boxing, and an avid lover of fishing, gardening, and travel. Yet, his greatest joys in life were found in the success and career journeys of his children, and time spent with his granddaughters.
Remembered as a beacon of love and loyalty, and a pillar of strength, Tony is survived by his wife, Miriam Mal Yon Kim; his children, Anna Kim-Williams & Michael I. Williams, Jayna Kim & Stuart Porad, and Thomas Young Kim & Teana Kim; his granddaughters, Malia Williams, Angela Kim, Mikayla Williams and Emily Kim; his sisters-in-law, Tae Pun Blass and Keum Ja Kim; his niece, Jung Min Mayor & husband Cesar Mayor; his nephew, Min Kook Kim; his great nephew, Ethan Mayor; his step-grandsons, Michael M. Williams, Isaac Williams and Kenneth Tang; and honorary son Daniel Lydiard & wife Kristine Lydiard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chong Sung Kim and Ki Soon Shim; his brothers, Joo Ok Kim, Joo Tae Kim, Joo Il Kim; and his sisters, Joo Yeon Kim, and Joo Ja Kim.
