Thomas F. Valiga, Sr. Obituary (1921

Thomas F. Valiga, Sr, 91, of Poulsbo, WA, passed away on January 22, 2013. Tom was born on July 25, 1921, in Aliquippa, PA, to John and Bertha (Matiscak) Valiga. He graduated from Aliquippa High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII earning the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA, Marshall Islands, and other duty stations during his honorable service spanning from 1941-1946. During this time, Tom married Virginia Margaret Nolte on April 29, 1944, in Aliquippa. Tom went on to work for Reynolds Aluminum for over 30 years. He was a proud member of the AMVETS, American Legion, VFW, and Poulsbo Yacht Club "Commodore 1985-1986". Tom and Virginia moved to Washington in 1981, bought their first boat, and enjoyed cruising the Sound and Inside Passage. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and 8 brothers and sisters. Tom's memory will live on with his children; Thomas Valiga, Jr. of Bedford, TX, Janetmarie Valiga of Poulsbo, WA, and Michael Cheyne of Tyrone, GA; brother, Paul of West Aliquippa, PA; sisters, Bertha Jean Gall, Betty Lou Bare, and June Rose Selley all of West Aliquippa, PA; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; and close friend, Carol Bedinger of Poulsbo, WA.
