Shirley Lenore Simon, 96, was born on July 1, 1928, to Doyle and Wilma Hoffman in Shelton, Washington. She passed on February 6, 2025, in Shelton, Washington.

Shirley is survived by all of her eight children: Mark Simon (Margie Blake) of Ocean Shores, Washington, Marcia Wentzel (Mark Wentzel) of Port Orchard, Washington, Don Simon, Jr. of Shelton, Washington, Tom Simon (Kathy Watson) of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Karen Gray (Jerry Gray) of Silverdale, Washington, Kevin Simon, of Bremerton, Washington, Jim Simon (Frank Petty III) of Portland, Connecticut, Joe Simon (Sandy Simon) of Bremerton, Washington along with 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, and her sister Wilma Gullickson of Shelton, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Donald R. Simon, Sr., and companion of over 15 years, Bill Warcup.
Shirley was raised poor in Shelton during the Great Depression allowing her to learn to make the best of what their family of seven children could afford; something which allowed her to never take things for granted. She cared for her younger sister and brother and niece giving her a steadfast love for children and family.

During her early twenties, Shirley found herself in Bremerton, Washington working at a job she loved at the XXX Drive-In Restaurant. Before long, and she was married; building a large family along with her husband who worked, and then retired, from PSNS.

With retirement came travel. Shirley and Don drove across the country several times, visited Hawaii, and toured Germany; always including family with either a visit, or, taking them along for the fun. With the move to Shelton to a new home, Shirley found Little Creek Casino, first with its Bingo Hall, and then with its slot machines. It becoming a joy for Shirley, who won big, and, of course, made new friends along the way.

After the death of her husband in 2005, came a new chapter in her later years. An amazing friendship and love story came about when Bill Warcup became part of her life. Now it was trips to Seattle to watch the Mariners, more travel throughout the states, and bowling will Bill and with daughter Marcia on the "Like Mother Like Daughter" team.

An avid reader, a master with the crochet hook, and famous for her potato salad, fried chicken, pies, and cookies; never thinking twice about hosting our crowd of over twenty five people for dinner.

Yet, above all, it was being Mom, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother; always lending her all to those who needed her attention. Always putting the children of her life above her own.

To know her is to love her. Shirley will most certainly be missed by so many.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Brother Don's Bar & Grill on Wednesday, February 26th, from 2pm to 6pm. Please come join us to honor the legacy of this magnificent woman.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
