Robert Eugene Sands

Robert Eugene Sands, a resident of Port Orchard, Washington, passed away on October 2, 2024, at the age of 87. Robert was born on August 10, 1937, in Morgan County, Ohio to Donald W. and Mildred L. Sands (Williams). He was a graduate of Homer Union High School in Ringold, Ohio. Robert worked for an oil drilling company and Malta Manufacturing while serving 5 years in the Ohio National Guard. Robert was in the US Navy for 24 plus years before retiring and worked for Civil Service for 15 years. Robert served in the US Navy from 1960-1984, achieving a rank of TMCM and was stationed in 15 different duty stations, which includes training/schools, both as a student and an instructor, staff position and a Med cruise on a Tender. He received numerous awards during his military career. He married his wife Delores A. Sands (Willis) on November 19, 1960, in Lebanon, Ohio.

Robert umpired Little League and Fast Pitch Softball Tournaments at the college level. Robert was a volunteer for the Red Cross at The Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Washington and He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, golf, Buckeye Football and time with his grandkids and great grandkids.

Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years Delores Sands, sons Timothy Robert Sands and Richard Eugene Sands, daughter Deidre Lenee' Seick, brother Ronald Sands, as well as 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and another due any day and 8 bonus great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Mildred Sands, sisters, Elizabeth, Bonnie and Wanda and brother Albert "Bert" Sands.

There will be a memorial service on November 22, 2024, at 2pm at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton, Washington. Reception to follow at same location until 4pm.
