Poulsbo, Washington
Robert Lloyd Myers, Sr., age 78, died of natural causes on October 21, 2008, at Martha and Mary Nursing Home in Poulsbo. He was born May 22, 1930 to Marjorie (Lloyd) and Herschel Myers in Port Townsend. He graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1949 and joined the Coast Guard in 1950. Later he attended Olympic College and then Western Washington University earning his BA in Education. He taught 4th grade in Sequim then returned to his college studies at Central Washington State College (CWU) obtaining a Master's Degree in Education and from 1967-69 he attended the University of Oregon on a W.S. Office of Education Fellowship and earned his Doctorate in Education. He was the Director of Special Education in the White River School District then became an Associate Professor for Eastern Washington University and for almost 30 years with CWU, retiring in 1991.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mona and their 4 grown children; Cynthia Uyeno (Al), Keri Myers, Susan Anest (Gene), and Robert Myers, Jr. (Renee). His four grandsons, John Twietmeyer, Nick Twietmeyer, Trey Myers, and Mark Peterson, all enjoyed spending time with their grandfather. Although he was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Jean Frambach and Beth Sands, he had many nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends and colleagues whom he loved to see show up at his farm to spend time with and enjoy (and the occasional stray animal). Pilgrimages to Canada for his favorite activities of fishing and camping are still made by his children and grandchildren who remember his shrewd sense of humor during breaks, meals and often any situation you would least expect physical comedy.
Funeral services will be at Stone Chapel in Poulsbo on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 1pm.
In memory of Bob Myers donations may be made to Martha & Mary Nursing Home for the Alzheimer's Bay Wing in Poulsbo.
