On 3/26/16 at 0155, attended by family, Robert Merle Espy passed quietly in his sleep from heart/kidney failure. His family gratefully acknowledges the tender and loving care provided by Hospice during the final days of his illness.
Bob was one of ten children born to Walter and Helen Espy on April 22, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His family moved from Oklahoma to California and then to Kansas City, where he married his grade school sweetheart, Shirley Grace Houchin, on September 2, 1950. Together they had four children: Allen, of Hood River, OR; Aaron, or Silverdale, WA; Daniel, of Seattle, WA, and Stephen, of Poulsbo, WA. Robert and Shirley had numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bob moved his family from California to Kitsap County in June, 1967, living first on Bainbridge Island, the moving to Poulsbo, and finally retiring in Indianola. Bob was preceded in death by Shirley in 2004.
Bob honorably served his country in the Korean War, later becoming a land surveyor, a field from which he retired in the 1990's. Throughout his life he was active in numerous Baptist churches. His faith in Jesus Christ as his lord, savior, and only hope of heaven was the foundation of his life.
A brief private graveside service celebrating Bob's life will take place at Stone Chapel Mortuary on Bond Road in Poulsbo, Wa. A gathering for friends and family will take place Wednesday, 4/6 from 3-5 pm at the family home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bibles International at www.biblesint.org, or Kitsap County Hospice.
