Poulsbo, Washington
Richard Merrill, born in Poulsbo, Washington on July 16, 1938, has left a legacy of love, dedication, and support that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Richard was a man who never shied away from hard work or commitment. He was one of the proud owners of Viking Fence Company, a business he passionately built with three founding members. His love for his empire was evident in the way he spoke about it, often fondly reminiscing about the early days. His dedication was not just limited to his work; he was also a devoted family man. His loved ones were his life, and he did everything possible to support them, embodying the quote, "The strength of a family, like the strength of an army, is in its loyalty to each other."
Richard was the epitome of a loving family man. He was wedded blissfully to Marie Merrill, and together they celebrated nearly 70 years of marriage. He was a supportive father to his daughter, Janet Rosebeary and the father of her children, John Rosebeary; and a doting grandfather to Ashley Rosebeary, Shelby (Joshua) Morris, and Kelsey (Danni) Lane. Richard was also a proud great-grandfather to Tristan and Wyatt Morris, and Harper Lane. He was a beloved uncle to Kenny Merrill and Mary Ann Carden. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Ella Merrill, and his brother, Jerry Merrill.
In his leisure time, Richard had a special fondness for working in his yard and had an endearing love for animals, particularly his dogs. His yard was his sanctuary, a place of beauty and tranquility, reflecting his inner peace and love for nature. He was a man of simple pleasures, living life to the fullest and savoring every moment.
The celebration of Richard's life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 1:00 pm PDT, at the Viking Fence Company Inc., 4119 Wheaton Way, Suite 201, Bremerton, Washington, 98310. It will be a time to remember and celebrate the life of a man who touched so many lives with his love, dedication, and support.
We encourage everyone who knew Richard to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page. Your stories, photos, and messages of love will help us all remember the unique and beautiful life that Richard lived.
