Patricia Catherine Marshall lived a resilient and beautiful life. She died peacefully in her beloved home with her attentive and youngest daughter Carla by her side.
Pat was born in Rochester, New York during the great Depression on December 12, 1930, to Frank and Ellen Smith. When she was a toddler, her father lost his job, so her mother took her to Ireland. Pat stayed with her grandmother while her mother went to work in England. By the time she was ready for school, they returned to Rochester where she began her Catholic education.
Upon graduating from High school, she attended a secretarial College then traveled across the country to the San Fransisco Bay area, got a civil service job with the Navy on Treasure Island, and met her husband, Carl Weirth. By the time they moved to Bremerton, where Carl grew up, they had 4 children Tom, Joan, Sheila, and Jim. It was in Bremerton where their 5th child Carla was born.
After her divorce, as a single parent Pat embraced the challenges and financial adversities of raising all 5 of her children by herself. With the support of her parents, she bought a house in the town of Indianola, an idyllic place to raise kids and returned to work for the U.S. Navy in a variety of civil service positions for the rest of her career. Being a good mother was her primary concern and her joy. Her Catholic faith was the central pillar in her life, the thing that carried her through everything. After retirement Pat filled her time with volunteering for a variety of organizations, traveling, playing bridge, and tea with grandchildren. She was also a prolific reader. She is known for being practical, smart, sensible, and kind.
Pat is predeceased by her parents Frank and Ellen Smith, her second husband Melvin, and her children Tom and Sheila. She is survived by her children Joan (Ed), Jim (Heidi), and Carla (Patty); Grandchildren, Ryan (Colin), Max (Michelle), Molly (Tommy), Erin (Issac), Sean, Quinn, Hayden (Sydney), Kaleigh, Eamonn (Natasa) and Tom; Great grandchildren, Brodie, Carl, Georgia, Amelia, Sophie, Theo, Mathilda, and Nara.
We are grateful to Hospice for their expert advice, support, and loving care.
