Patricia Rae Hanks

–

Poulsbo, Washington

On October 3, 2023, in Tacoma, Washington, Patricia Rae (Olson) Hanks was allowed to go home to be with her Lord. Her family was able to say goodbye during her final days and she was at peace before she breathed her last. During her life she did her best to serve and honor the God she loved.

Born 15 minutes after her sister Claudia on January 30, 1940, she was the third child of Ralph and Reatha (Stone) Olson of Seattle, Washington, where she grew up in the Riverton Heights area. Her grandparents, Louis and Agnes Stone, lived on the next street directly behind her parents, and they helped raise her, and instilled a love of many creative things in her. She graduated from Foster High School, and then met her future husband, Darrell Hanks. They were married in 1959. Their early years were spent south of Seattle, where their three sons were born. When Darrell was transferred to the Boeing plant in Everett they moved to Edmonds. Pat worked in banking for many of those years, but also started a catering company which allowed her to capitalize on her cooking skills. Eventually, they moved to Poulsbo, Washington, where she returned to banking. When it became apparent that more childcare was needed in Poulsbo, she helped start and run the Poulsbo Children's Center at their church, Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church. In their later years, they moved to Tacoma to be near family.

Pat was a gifted artist and cook who loved working with kids, whether it was her own boys, her grandchildren, church kids, or the children at Poulsbo Children's Center. She always tried to instill a love of God in the children she worked with, and she loved helping each child discover their own type of creativity. She and Darrell also worked with West Sound Youth for Christ providing respite foster care.

In addition to helping to start the Poulsbo Children's Center, Pat was very involved at Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church. She was a part of the hospitality ministry in the church and she and Darrell often hosted social gatherings or visiting missionaries in their home. She is survived by her younger brother, Harvey, her three sons, Brian (Gretchen), Mike (Tamara), and Curt, and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday December 9th 2023 at Liberty Bay Presbyterian Church. Interment will be private at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo. The family has requested that, instead of flowers, donations be made to West Sound Youth for Christ (https://westsound.yfc.net/donate/).
