Marvin A. Bretsen "Butch" left us after a 7 year battle with cancer on May 21, 2009.
He was born on March 24, 1949 to his parents Margaret and Arthur Bretsen. They raised him on Bainbridge Island with his two sisters, Mickey and Sandy.
After high school he joined the Navy and served in Vietnam from November 18, 1968 to August 18, 1972. After the Navy he went to Olympic College and did an apprenticeship where he became a welder. He then worked in the Ship Yard and Bangor Naval Base until 2001. While working at the ship yard, he met his wife Lindy, who he married on May 21, 1983.
After leaving Banger, he was diagnosed with cancer. When he received treatment for his cancer he would walk into room, where everyone would be quiet, and only moments later, he would have them laughing. He changed many people's lives and will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife Lindy Bretsen, three daughters; Lorena Bretsen, Jennie Delaney and Dawn Bretsen; two son-in-laws Charlie Delaney and Nathan Salo; his sister Sandy Oden; and his new grandson Carson Delaney.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday May 28 at 1:00pm at Stone Chapel Poulsbo Mortuary.
