Marilyn Joyce Burns

–

Bremerton, Washington

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Joyce Burns is on the big dance floor of heaven. She put her dancing shoes on November 22, 2013.
She entered this world on April 10, 1930 in Great Falls, Montana, the daughter of Carrie Williams and Harley Beckett. She is having a family reunion with her brothers, Glen and Gene Beckett and her sister June Schatzka.
She lived in Great Falls until she was 12 years old, then moved to Washington DC with her mom until she was 14. She moved to Bremerton to live with her brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Lois Beckett. Joyce graduated from Bremerton High School in 1948 then lassoed and married Orville Burns on February 19, 1949, and they have been soul mates for 64 years.

She raised five children and mothered and fed countless neighborhood, military and church kids through the years as they would cycle through her home. She was always known as a great listener and had the ability to make you feel like you were the only one in the room. It is hard to count the lives she has touched and anyone who had the pleasure of spending time at the "Burns House" knows the impact she had on their lives.
Joyce was a devoted Mariner fan and could be found in her favorite chair at home while cheering them on the television. Her home was always a flurry of activity while friends, neighbors, and relatives would stop by unannounced and spend hours talking, quilting and socializing.
She leaves behind her spouse Orville Burns, as well as 5 children; Pamela (Rene) Borne, Sharon (Scott) Milner, Randall Burns, Tracy (Jim) Storey, and Bruce Burns. Also left behind are 10 grandchildren and 7-1/2 great-grandchildren (actually all of her children and great).
We will be celebrating her life on December 7 at 1:00 PM at Lewis Funeral Chapel. In honor of her love for the Seattle Mariner baseball team, Mariner attire is welcomed to the celebration of life service.
DONATIONS CAN BE MADE IN THE NAME OF JOYCE BURNS TO: Child Evanglism Fellowship of Lewis County, 703 W. Main, Centralia, WA 98531-2846. Please put initials (SLA) on the check.
