LaVon Stenquist Willey Obituary (1926

LaVon S. Willey of Bremerton, Washington passed away March 24, 2017 at the age of 90. LaVon and her twin sister LaVern Stenquist were born July 16, 1926 in Tremonton, Utah to George Carl Stenquist (1888-1966) and Tekla Teresia Borg Stenquist (1889-1970). All of the Stenquist children grew up helping on the family's dry farm raising sugar beets. After graduating from Bear River High School, LaVon worked several secretarial and bookkeeping jobs, then served a mission to Northern California for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from January 3, 1947 to July, 1948. After her mission she worked at the bank in Tremonton for a time and then moved to Logan, Utah where she attended Utah State University in the evenings while working at the Cache Valley Bank in Logan. LaVon met her future husband, Kjar Gale Willey, at a LDS Church fireside in Bremerton, Washington while visiting relatives there. After exchanging many letters and several meetings in Salt Lake City at General Conference, they married on December 21, 1954 in the Logan Utah Temple. They made their home in Bremerton, Washington, where LaVon was a homemaker and served in many church positions including Primary president, MIA president, Relief Society president, and as a Seattle Temple worker. She was very gifted in making crafts and home decorations. LaVon is preceded in death by her parents, George and Tekla Senquist of Tremonton, Utah, her son Mark Craig Willey of Bremerton, Washington, her husband Kjar G. Willey, and her siblings Donald G. Stenquist, Elaine S. Thompson, LaVern S. Coombs, Leona Stenquist, and Elmo Stenquist. She is survived by her three daughters: Kayla Willey of Orem, Utah, Cherylyn (Bob) Wright of West Richland, Washington, and Janeen Willey of Mesa, Arizona, and her sister Golda Stenquist Campbell of Tremonton, Utah. LaVon has seven grandchildren: Jason (Krista), Lindsay, Devin (Lauren), and Stephanie Wright, Tyler (Carolina) Willey, Christina (Jordan) Hochstrasser, and Malinda (Justin) Griffin, and six great-grandchildren: Zoey Willey, Jackson, Liam, and Eliana Hochstrasser, and Rene and Stuart Griffin.
