Joseph Leonard Pisz

–

Poulsbo, Washington

Joseph Leonard Pisz, 87, passed away on August 31, 2018. Born in Detroit, Michigan, October 4, 1930. Joseph was the seventh son of the seventh son to Polish immigrants Louis and Regina (Mihora) Pisz. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945 at age 15. As a Korean war veteran, Joseph honorably served our country for well over 30 years in numerous capacities including Infantry, the 82nd and 101st Airborne, Electronic Intelligence, NIKE HERCULES air defense, and Patriot Missile air defence. For his heroic achievement in a combat zone, Joseph was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, among many other achievements and awards, and retired in 1977 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. Following his distinguished military career, Joseph and his family moved to Poulsbo, Washington. He pursued an Associate's Degree in Computer Science and began his second career as an Electrician for Kitsap County Public Works Wastewater Division, and retired after 15 years in 1995. Joseph married the love of his life, Greta (Johansen) of Norway in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1970, and together they raised a family. Joseph was a talented writer, artist, and teller of jokes. He especially enjoyed writing children's stories and published several poems with the National Poetry Society. He served as Treasurer for the Reserve Officer's Association local chapter for many years, and was an avid reader of nonfiction military books and the Bible (which he read more times than he could count). He enjoyed traveling the globe with his family and enjoyed working on crossword puzzles. Joseph's passions were many, but above all was his family. A truly amazing husband and father, he will be forever loved and missed. Joseph is survived by his loving wife Greta, his daughter Tina Patch (Jim), son Thomas Pisz (Julie), and grandsons Stefan Patch and Wyatt Pisz, and his brother Louis Pisz. A Celebration of Life memorial service is planned for Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Stone Chapel in Poulsbo, Washington.
