John Robert Peebles Sr. Obituary (1928

John Robert Peebles, Sr. born June 21, 1928, in Columbus, MS to the late Rev. James E. Peebles, Sr. and Pearl A. Pennington Peebles departed this life January 29, 2022 in Tacoma, WA. At an early age John joined the US Navy and at one point was stationed in San Diego, Calif. After San Diego he was stationed in Bremerton, WA. where he met Delsie M. Williams. They were joined in marriage for 53 years and to this union four children were born; Vivian, Sylvia, John R., Jr. and Michael. After living in WA State, John and his family were transferred to the Bay Area, Calif. and he was stationed at NAS Moffett Field Patrol Squadron Thirty-One where he performed maintenance on aircraft until retiring with an Honorable Discharge. The family lived and thrived in East Palo Alto, Calif. until returning to Bremerton, WA. in the 1970's. John worked in maintenance at Olympic College, Bremerton, WA and also retired from that job. John loved the Lord and was committed to his Christian faith, ultimately, becoming an Ordained Minister in the AME and Baptist churches. He was involved in various church activities including Sunday School and participation in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). He provided support to his wife who was the founder and Director of the Lord's Neighborhood Diner in Bremerton which provided meals to families in need every Saturday and Sunday for 10 straight years. Every Friday John would drive to Northwest Harvest in Seattle to pick up food for the weekend meals. On Saturdays he would pick up bread and desserts from local stores. He would also provide communion and meals to those who were sick and shut in. He and Delsie were a living example of Christian charity. John not only loved God, but he loved his family deeply and would do anything for them. He enjoyed his life in Bremerton with his family and many friends. He especially enjoyed vacations with Delsie, such as traveling back to California and cruises with friends to different parts of the world. He was a very humorous person often telling "corny jokes" that would make you stop and think. He loved being a "handy-man" working on his cars and other things that needed fixing. Most notably, he was expert Domino and pinnacle player. Like many people, he was known by other names; dad, grandfather, g-pa, Rev. Peebles, Johnny, Uncle Johnny, my brother-in-law, my faithful friend and Mr. Peebles. John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delsie and his son, John Robert Peebles, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Vivian Charity (Bill), Sylvia Murphy (Ron), and Michael C. Peebles. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. John was loved by many and gave of himself to many so that they could have a better life. Wea are saddened at the loss of his presence, but we also rejoice with the angels as they welcome John home. Because God is faithful to His promise of eternal life to those who believe in Him, we can be assured that he is forever with the Lord.
