John Kullberg, our beloved husband and father, passed away on September 17, 2026. Born in Vancouver, WA on December 21, 1946, John grew up in Heisson, WA and attended Battleground High School where he played football, wrestled, and participated in track. He started dating his wife Kim in his junior year of high school. John went on to play football for Yakima Valley Community College before transferring to Central Washington State College. He married Kim in 1968 and they both graduated in 1969.
John had a zest for life that was unmatched and he had a knack for turning hobbies into masterpieces. From building remote-controlled cars, model trains, dollhouses, lighthouses, computers, and 3D printers to grilling and smoking delicious food for his family, brewing craft beer and savoring fine scotch, John's creativity was boundless. His love for collecting and listening to music, all things hi-fi, watching football and participating in fantasy football leagues was just as passionate. His witty sense of humor and the joy he derived from his projects made him the life of the party.
John's professional journey as a teacher was as enriching as his personal interests. He spent his career educating young minds at Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale, Washington, where he also coached football and wrestling until his retirement in 1999. His outstanding contribution to wrestling earned him a place in the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 2011. John's love for learning and sharing his knowledge extended beyond the classroom, as he was also a proud member of the WIAA wrestling association, the Scotch Malt Whiskey Society, and the esteemed Ontological Society. He was the winner of many "Best Dad and Papa Ever" awards as proudly displayed on many mugs, t-shirts and certificates.
Above all, John was a loving family man. He loved spending time with his wife Kim, and their family, which includes their daughter Jenni and her husband Homer Tolentino, Son Joel, and their cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren Oliver, Vee and Sophie Kullberg; Ashley, Stellan and Leo Tolentino; Dante and Arya Vaughan. He is survived by his siblings Madolyn Edwards, Bob Kullberg, Bill Kullberg, and Marianne Geiger. John was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Bessie Kullberg, and his son Jarad Kullberg.
