John Elward

–

Poulsbo, Washington

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of John "Jack" Elward on October 13, 2026, at Liberty Shores Memory Care in Poulsbo, WA.

Born on July 21, 1950, in Monroe, Michigan, Jack’s life was defined by ingenuity, hard work, and dedication. Even as a young boy, he demonstrated extraordinary talent by constructing electronic devices from salvaged components—a passion that ultimately led to a successful and fulfilling career in electrical engineering.

Jack’s academic and professional accomplishments reflect a life driven by intellectual curiosity. He attended Monroe Catholic Central High School, where he served as class president and graduated as a National Merit Scholar. He went on to study electrical engineering at the University of Michigan, graduating magna cum laude. Early in his career, Jack worked at Hewlett-Packard, taught at Howard University, and earned a master’s degree from Stanford University.

Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, Jack had a vibrant love for the outdoors, sports, and travel. An ardent Michigan Wolverines fan, he also held season tickets to Stanford football games, savoring the excitement of every game day. His social life was filled with spirited card games, fine wine, scotch and cigars, surrounded by a close community of friends with whom he enjoyed trips and motorcycle rides. Hanalei Bay held a special place in his heart as one of his favorite destinations on earth. Later, while living in Burlingame, CA, Jack became an enthusiastic pickleball player and certified instructor, eagerly sharing his love of the game with others.

Jack is survived by his two sons, Michael (Dorena) and Gregory; his stepdaughter, Emily (Jordan); his beloved grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; and a large extended family. His vibrant spirit, infectious energy, and warm smile will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A service celebrating Jack’s life will be held on November 14, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe, MI. Friends and loved ones are invited to leave memories and photos on Jack's memorial page to help honor his memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable contributions in memory of John (“Jack”) Elward be made to Brain Support Network, PO Box 7264, Menlo Park, CA 94026, (https://www.brainsupportnetwork.org).
