Bremerton, Washington
The Reverend Jennifer Julian Pratt passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026 at Ashley Gardens Memory Care in Bremerton.
She is missed dearly by her husband of 35 years, William (Bill) Smith, her daughters Darcie Larson and Sandy Johnson, her stepsons Aaron and Sean Smith, and her six grandchildren, Vivian, Andy, Colin, Austin, Breckin, and Dax.
Jennifer is remembered for her devoted ministry as an ordained priest in the Episcopal Church, serving at St. Hugh in Allyn, and St. John’s in Gig Harbor, as well as providing prison ministry at the Washington Women's Corrections Center in Purdy. She received her Master of Divinity from Seattle University.
Jennifer was born October 11, 1948 in San Francisco, the daughter of Helen (Musgrove) Pratt and Philip H. Pratt. She grew up in Mill Valley, California and graduated from Tamalpais High School. Jennifer loved horses and owned a horse which she boarded at a stable in Tennessee Valley, right up the road from her childhood home. She got her first car while in high school which was a white Volkswagen Beetle. She recounted seeing both the Rolling Stones and the Beatles in concert when they played in San Francisco.
Jennifer obtained a degree in art history from UC Davis where she met her first husband, Norman Johnson.
Jennifer and Norm moved to Bremerton where she lived the rest of her life, and had two daughters, Darcie and Sandy. Jennifer was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and worked as an administrative assistant there. She was on the Vestry, an altar server, and in the choir. Jennifer felt called the ministry. She was ordained as an Episcopal Priest at St. Hugh church in Allyn. She also served as education director at St. John’s church in Gig Harbor. She served the Ladies Correctional Facility in Purdy as Priest.
Bill and Jennifer married in 1992 and enjoyed road trips, rail trips, gardening and the company of their various cats. Jennifer was always an animal lover and took after her mother Helen in being an avid bird watcher.
Jennifer loved humor and music, being a fan of Saturday Night Live through the years. She accompanied Darcie to the KNDD “EndFest” Music Festival at the Kitsap Fairgrounds in 1992, and attended Bumpershoot numerous times over the years.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 10th at St. Hugh Church in Allyn. Memorials can be donated to the College Scholarship Fund at St. Hugh’s to benefit deserving students.
