Henry passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 10, 2021. He was 82 years old and is survived by his bride of 60 years, Patricia and 2 sons, Phil and Brad and 5 grandchildren. Additionally he is survived by sisters Sharon, Harriet and a Brother, Delbert.

Born in LaSalle Illinois, Henry was the product of a strong Midwestern childhood upbringing. Growing up in Peoria, Henry graduated in 1957 from Spalding High School and earned an undergraduate degree from Illinois State.

Henry then did a short tour with the Air Force as a B-52 mechanic stationed in Mountain Home, Idaho. This where he met is bride of 60 years in Boise. Henry and Patricia quickly found romance and adventure. The adventure moved back to the midwest to Lincoln, Nebraska where Henry began a lifelong career in academia. He finished his doctorate in Sociology from the University of Nebraska which opened the path to Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas as a Sociology professor.

The 'Waters Hall' gang of professors at K-State was known for Jade Plants, aromatic pipe tobacco and long political discussions around current world events.

Pat and Henry raised both their boys in Manhattan before moving onto administration at the University of North Florida. He finished his career as the UNF president before retiring to Kingston, Washington to be near family.

He had many interests, a love for golf, great barbecue and gardening. A passion passed on to the next generation.

There are many lives that Henry touched, many with dad jokes and great pull-yourself-up advice... Always do what you think is right, was one of the best ones. In his final days at home, he enjoyed the garden, sharing stories and the comfort of knowing his lifetime of dedication and service to others will live on. Henry Camp, now enjoying the best ribs and burnt ends in the sky. Your family will miss your joy and relish the fond memories and experiences we had together.

A gathering, BBQ and celebrating the stories of Henry will be Saturday September 25 in Kingston from 1PM to 5PM. Contact the family at campmanor@comcast.net to share your story or to find out info to attend. In Lieu of flowers, please send any support to ShareNet Food Bank in Kingston.
