Hazel " Tootie" Nagle was the last surviving child of Henry & Hazel Hendrickson. She was born September 25, 1925 at the Old Norwegian Hospital in Seattle. She was their middle child and joined older brother Kenneth and sister Jean and her younger siblings were Ruth and Robert.
The family moved to Manette in February 1926, then Johnson Corner in 1927. Moving several more times between east 15th Street and East Bremerton where she started 1st Grade in 1931 at the Manette Grade School. Then moved to High and Gregory in 1939 just before WW 2. Late 1939 forced them to move to the log house the family built on Beck Rd just past Belfair State Park.
After starting her junior year 1942/43 at South Kitsap High School she suffered a ruptured appendix and dropped out of high school. With the war on she went to work doing housekeeping, cooking, sales clerk, accountant, practical nursing, theater usher and the one she loved the most was fire and airplane watch at Marble Mt. in the Cascades. The last job she worked before meeting the love of her life ( Louis Nagle) was at the old brush shed which is now the small brick building at the four corners across from the QFC in Belfair.
Tootie and brother Kenny frequented the dance halls in Belfair but loved the Old Belfair Barn where friends the Rickabaughs , Who had a western band played. It was there she met up an old friend from school, Louis Nagle. They were married December 5 of 1944 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bremerton. Moving for a short time into Navy housing, then to a small home on Newkirk Rd in Belfair. They stayed there until Lou was shipped out to San Diego. After the war they moved to Pt Townsend where David was born in April of 1947. Late 1948 a job at PSNS brought them back to Bremerton where Lea Ann was born in July of 1949. In September of 1949 they bought their home on Erlands Point and remained there until June of 1974 and retirement gave them 17 great years of travel with friends and family.
They finally again settled at the Erlands Point Mobile Home Park and in later years served as assistant park managers. Louis passing in September of 2005 brought her life changes and she dedicated most of her time to the Cancer Society's Discovery Shop in Silverdale. Health problems in 2016 had her moving to an apartment in Belfair close to Lea. In 2018 she was placed on hospice care with Lea and Al. As anyone knowing her she was spunky and determined and showed everyone that the doctors that gave 4 to six weeks were entirely wrong and made it 16 months.
Most of the time she enjoyed being with family and reminiscing over her 94 years. Her only regret was leaving her much loved family, son David and his wife Jackie Nagle, daughter Lea and husband Al Shauers, grandson Jeff and his wife Angie Shauers, grandson Shane and his wife Cassie Nagle, granddaughter Shelly and husband Bob Edling. Her great grandchildren Ariana West, Hunter Shauers, Hayley Barlow, Justn' Shauers, Josh Shauers, Kelsey Bennet, Shelby Smith, Jordan Edling and last but not least Alex Nagle. There are also her great great grandchildren Cameron Bennet, and Jaxon Smith who is expecting a little brother in May.
She passed on March 19th at 6 AM at Haven in Allyn where she had been since March 7th following a short stay in the hospital after suffering a fall on March 2nd.
Our most sincere appreciation to her Providence Hospice team. Sheri, Tracey, Jackie, Mariah, Dr Glasser, Lisa Smith and many others who were invaluable to us as we cared for her. Your compassion, care and love were what got us thru. She loved you all.
Mom you will be greatly missed but we know you are at peace and happy with Dad. Until we are fishing and camping again.
