George R. Best

George R. Best, 87, of Port Orchard, WA passed away on February 23, 2013. George was born on June 5, 1925 in King County, WA to Edgar and Katheryn (Grabby) Best.

He honorably served in the Merchant Marines toward the end of WWII, but served from 1943-1946. He went on to work in landscaping and eventually owned his own business in this field of work.

George enjoyed studying the bible, tinkering around, and volunteering his time reading to school children. He received Volunteer of the Year at West Hills Elementary School from, then Gov. Gary Locke for his reading volunteerism.

George is preceded in death by his parents; but his memory will live on with his son, Dan (Tammy); daughters, Jo Moses (Vern), Sharon Kelley, and Lois Marin (Chris); 14 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, March 1st at 11:00am at the Washington State Veterans Home chapel. Inurnment will be private at Retsil Cemetery.
