Gene Sam Docken, born on January 25th, 1950 in Salem, Oregon to his parents Samuel and Ellen Docken, passed away on May 24th, 2025. Gene was a loving son, a resilient brother, and a courageous individual who carried these qualities throughout his life. As American author, Joshua J. Marine, once said, "Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful." Gene embodied this sentiment, facing every challenge head-on, including his final battle with cancer.
Gene was a loyal spouse to Kris Docken, whom he married on February 26, 1982, and was a steadfast presence in their home in Poulsbo, Washington, where he resided for 68 years. His devotion to his family was only surpassed by his unwavering faith. Gene was a skilled chef by trade, and spent his career in the restaurant and assisted living sector. He took great pride in his work and continued to serve his community until his retirement in 2025 from Walmart in Poulsbo, Washington.
Gene is survived by his spouse Kris, his daughter Shasta Schaber and son-in-law Dave, his granddaughters Desirae Schaber and Haleigh Ryan, and his nephews Kenny and Mike Docken. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Ellen Docken, and his brothers Jay and Ken Docken. As we remember Gene, we reflect on the words of Helen Keller: "What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes part of us." Gene's memory will remain with us as a testament of his love, resilience, courage, and loyalty.
We encourage those who knew Gene to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page. Through these shared experiences, we can keep the essence of Gene's spirit alive, and remember the extraordinary life he led.
