Floyd Engstrom

–

Bremerton, Washington

Floyd James "Jim" Engstrom, 83, of Bremerton, went to be with Jesus on October 4, 2026, at home, in the loving care of his family.

Jim was born on August 18, 1943, in Seattle to Floyd and Alice Engstrom. Jim’s father served in the U.S. Army, so the family moved often. Throughout his childhood, the family moved from Bremerton, Washington, to Adak, Alaska, and then to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was in Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis evacuation order issued by President Kennedy. After the evacuation, Jim attended West High School in Bremerton, then returned to Cuba and graduated from Guantanamo Bay High School in 1963. He joined the U.S. Army Reserve in January of 1967 and was honorably discharged in September of 1971.

Jim worked as a tile setter and foreman in Shop 71 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1995 after more than 30 years. During his career, he traveled and worked at many shipyards throughout the U.S.

On June 24, 1966, Jim married Carolyn Jean Fisher at First Presbyterian Church in Bremerton. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past June with family and friends and a delicious taco bar.

Jim was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord and served Him daily. He worshiped at Lincoln Avenue Bible Church and Peninsula Bible Fellowship over the years. He served as activity director at Dunes Bible Camp, led youth groups and Awana clubs, volunteered with Royal Family Kids Camp, and was an adopted grandparent to the Crosspoint school choirs.

Jim loved a good (and bad) joke, movie trivia, hot sauce, photography, fishing, camping and hats, and above all, his family family. He loved his family more than life itself, and he was loved deeply in return.

Jim battled medical challenges for years, and his desire to be with his family gave him the strength to over come his adversary.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Tammi (Wayne) Keffer, Tim (Tosha) Engstrom, and Tom (Jenn) Engstrom; ten grandchildren, Hunter, Sierra, Hudson, Levi, Avianne, Chase, Eve, Israel, Phoebe, and Shepherd; two great-grandchildren, Isla Jean and Indie-Mae; his sister, Virginia Hotten; and his sister-in-law, Becky Engstrom. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Alice; his brother, Harold; and his brother-in-law, Gary.

A service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Peninsula Bible Fellowship in Silverdale, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Peninsula Bible Fellowship for Royal Family Kids Camp, a five-day overnight camp for local foster children ages 5 to 11.

Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel, (360) 377-3836.
