Edith Andrea Waag

–

Poulsbo, Washington

Edith Andrea Waag went to her heavenly home on August 30, 2013 with her seven children and beloved daughter-in-law by her side.

She was born in Bremsnes, Norway, on March 23, 1924 to Knut and Marie Sund. She and her brother Edward immigrated to the USA in 1928 with their mother. Their father became a United States citizen in 1920 and met their ship in New York. They settled on a small farm in Silverdale, WA. Edith attended Clear Creek Elementary and at the age of 17 graduated from Central Kitsap High School where she played the violin, was a majorette and expert typist. After attending business school in Bremerton, she worked at the Navy Yard, Port Orchard Court House and in banking.

Edith married John Waag of Poulsbo on July 27, 1945 after he returned home from World War II. They settled in Lemolo where they lived for 49 years and raised 7 children.

She was the Poulsbo VFW Secretary/Treasurer for 45+ years, a member of the Lemolo Home Ec Club and was voted Poulsbo Mother of the Year in 1982. She was also selected as the VFW Loyalty Day Queen in 1976. She was an Avon representative while raising her children and, as an empty nester, she worked at Anderson's Department Store in Poulsbo until she retired.

Edith loved her large family. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress; played the organ and piano; watched and attended sporting events, including trips to Pasadena for a UW Rose Bowl and the Mariner's Spring Training in Peoria. She spent countless hours working in her beautiful yard and vegetable garden. She traveled twice to Norway to visit relatives, enjoyed a cruise to Alaska and made several vacation visits to California.

Edith is survived by her brother Edward Sund (Elsie); daughters, Bonita Kelly (Mike), Andrea Bruns (Jim), Vergena Landry (Paul), Adele Smith (Bob), Aline Smith (Rick); sons, John Waag, Jr. (Teri) and Bill Waag; special family member, Geoff Morse (Linda); 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, son-in-law, Rick Rice, and grandson, Aaron Waag.

A private family celebration is being planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Martha & Mary Health & Rehab, PO Box 127, Poulsbo, 98370 or Kitsap Humane Society, 9167 Dickey Rd NW, Silverdale, 98383, attn: Larry Bleich.
