Port Orchard, Washington
With a heart full of memories and eyes filled with tears, we announce the passing of a charismatic and funny man, Dewitt Dooley Jr., fondly known to many as "Bug." Born on August 6, 1946, in Athens, GA, Dewitt had a way of lighting up a room with his wit and charm. He was a loyal friend, a loving father, and a doting grandfather. For 37 memorable years, Dewitt was a dedicated salesman at the same auto dealership, where his charisma and wit served him well in forming lasting relationships with colleagues and customers alike.
Dewitt was a man who loved the simple things in life. His favorite pastime was fishing, a hobby that brought him great joy and peace. He was also a proud member of the VFW in Port Orchard. Despite his move from Athens, Georgia, and Shreveport, Louisiana, to Port Orchard, Washington, Dewitt always held onto his southern charm, bringing warmth and laughter to his new community. Above all, Dewitt was a man grounded in his faith and family. He firmly held to, and was anchored by Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".
Dewitt is fondly remembered by his sons, Mark and James Dooley; and his granddaughters, Morgan Campbell, Brittany Kennedy, Meghan Bynum, and Jordan Dooley. He also leaves behind his grandson, Austin Dooley, sister Laura Anne Dooley Fussell and two nieces, Tracey and Tammy as well six great grandchildren and number seven coming in May! He is preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt Dooley, Sr. and Alice Dooley.
The celebration of Dewitt's life will take place on Friday, January 23, 2026, at The Washington Veteran's Home in Port Orchard, Washington at 1pm and on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 1:00 pm PST at the Bogart Historical Agricultural Center at 1pm on February 14, 2026, in Bogart, Georgia. Dewitt will be placed at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia in a private ceremony on February 13, 2026. As we gather to honor Dewitt's unforgettable journey, we encourage you to share your memories and photos of him on the memorial page. Your heartfelt tributes will serve as a reminder of Dewitt's wonderful life and the countless lives he touched with his wit and charm.
