Bremerton, Washington
Anthony Kit Smith, 62, of Bremerton, Washington, passed away peacefully on the evening of August 25th, 2020 at St. Michael Medical Center (formerly Harrison Medical Center) in Bremerton, in the presence of his family.
Anthony, or "Kit", as he was known by his middle name by both family and friends, was born on December 10th, 1957 in Bremerton, son of the late Ned and Jeanne Smith. On August 28th, 1978 he married his high school sweetheart, Debra Renee Peterson ("Debbie"), also of Bremerton. They were both Central Kitsap High School graduates (Class of '77). Debbie passed away suddenly in 1997.
Kit spent his whole life in Bremerton, graduating from high school, beginning his career, and starting his family in the area. He worked several jobs but was best known for his career at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. It was there that he spent 35 years, starting as a welder for Shop 26, and ending his career as a general foreman for Shop 38, machinists. Kit retired in 2015 and spent his retirement on the waterfront in Manette, WA. He enjoyed working on hobbies (model boats among other things), spending time with his friends and family, relaxing - spending a lot of time on his patio which overlooked the water, watching boats pass day by day, and watching sunsets overlooking the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound in the evening.
He is survived by his eldest son and daughter-in-law, Cameron and Connie Smith of Seabeck, WA; his youngest (twin) sons, Cody Smith and Cory Smith, both of Bremerton, WA; his sisters, Terry Kennedy of Vancouver, WA, Anita Hansen of Gig Harbor, WA, Tammy Holmes of Tacoma, WA; his brother, Tim Smith of Sun City West, AZ; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Norean Peterson of Bremerton, WA; and a number of other close family and friends.
Burial services will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton in coordination with Lewis Funeral Chapel. Due to the extenuating circumstances that we are living in right now with the pandemic, his sons ask that family and friends reach out for a celebration of life ceremony which will take place at a later time when we can all safely gather together again and remember Kit's legacy.
