It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Allen Edward Alto Jr., one of the most beloved musicians in the area. He leaves behind his wife, Jodi (Satter, Fordahl, Alto), his children Ashley (Alberta, Canada), Tessa and husband Steven (Mason County), and twins Alia and Kara (Kitsap County). His surviving siblings are: two brothers, Jerry Padden and Robert Alto (Kitsap County), and two sisters, Karen (Rochester, WA) and Marcia (Cashton, WI). He also leaves his grandchildren Gene, Greyson, Kelsey, Grace, Isabella, and Elisabeth (Mason County); plus so many musician friends that he played with through the years.
Al was born June 22, 1960, in Long Beach, CA and spent his childhood in East Bremerton and Lake Tahuyeh, graduating from Central Kitsap High School in 1978. He went to Central Washington University on a music scholarship. He started his career in music, (guitar, singing and composing) playing music around the West Sound and Seattle areas.
When Al wasn’t playing his guitar and singing, he could be found out in the woods, cutting up firewood, clearing brush, hunting (bow, black powder and modern rifle), fishing or just enjoying the splendor of the Northwest woods. He worked for the Girl Scouts at two camps in the area (his dream job) for 4 years. On December 9, 2025, he passed away suddenly at one of the most beautiful spots in the camp.
His musical career took him to many venues around the world, including Guam, Mexico, Canada, and the Northwest. For the last couple of decades, he left the road and settled down to raise his family and play mostly locally, with Tammy and Pete as the Tammy Frost Trio, as well as fronting the Joe Faker Jam on Sunday evenings at Brother Don’s Bar and Grill in Bremerton.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Dolores and Allen Alto, Sr. and his older brother Jim Padden.
The Al Alto Memorial Celebration of Life Concert will be held on January 10th from 2:00 to 7:00 at the Admiral Theater in Bremerton. This concert will feature many of the musicians that Al played with through the years. Family and friends are invited to help us celebrate Al’s life.
