Sara "Sally "M. Oyler Obituary (1922

On Wednesday, December 23rd, 2015 Sara "Sally" M. Oyler died peacefully. A hallmark of Sally's life was the deep and longstanding bonds she formed with family and friends. Sally, was born January 22, 1922 in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. Her parents, Maud Turner Moore and Horace Calvin Moore, raised Sally as an only child, having lost her older brother William Moore shortly after his birth. Sally graduated from Liberty High School in 1941 and attended Bethlehem Business College for the next two years. She completed the secretarial course in July 1943 and served as a class officer. After graduation Sally was employed by Lehigh Valley Railroad when, on a blind date, she met Bob Oyler. After dating a year, the couple married on September 20, 1947. The two would move 13 times over the course of Bob's career as a chemical engineer employed by General Electric Company. During this time Sally was primarily occupied as a homemaker, however she also worked in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District Library, in the technical library at the GE plastics plant in Mt. Vernon, Indiana and in research services at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. In addition to formal employment, Sally served on the Board of Directors of the East Lyme Nursing Association for four years when the couple resided in Connecticut. She was actively involved in the Bremerton Elks when her husband served as Exalted Ruler. She was a member of P.E.O. and the Bremerton Garden Club and volunteered regularly at Silverdale Lutheran Church where she worshipped. She lived in the Crista Shores Retirement community for the last 6 years of her life and was actively involved in the hospitality committee, welcoming new residents by interviewing them and composing biographical sketches introducing them to the community. She enjoyed reading, knitting, cooking and entertaining. Sally was an exceptionally friendly and outgoing person, interested in and inclusive of other people throughout her life. She maintained friendships, even dating from her childhood and adolescence, despite her many geographical moves. Sally cherished time with her close network of friends. For over 25 years she looked forward to the Friday card games with the "Golden Girls". Sally was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Robert L. Oyler who died in 2013. Survivors include her son, David L. Oyler (Lisa) of Mt. Vernon, Indiana and her daughter, Barbara L. Oyler (Peter Ihrig) of West Linn, Oregon. She has four grandchildren, Cory Ihrig Goldhaber (Dan) of Seattle, Justin Ihrig, of San Francisco, Stephanie Oyler Toon (Jesse) of Mt. Vernon, Indiana and Sam Ihrig, of New York City. Great grandchildren include Mazy Goldhaber, Kayleigh Toon, Oliver Goldhaber and Rosalie Toon. Sally will be missed by her family and her many close friends.
