Lewis Carlton Johnston Obituary (1928

Lewis Carlton Johnston, 81, passed away Oct. 7, 2010 at St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor from complications of Parkinson's. He was born to Lewis and Ina Johnston on Dec. 15, 1928 in Winter Garden, FL and graduated from Lakeview High School. After graduation, he spent 2 years with the Coast Guard stationed in St. Petersburg, FL. He spent 30 years in the telecommunications field, working for Florida Telephone Co., United Telephone Co., and Sprint in Florida and Washington State. In the mid to late 70's he designed and engineered much of the cable placed at new construction sites at Bangor Sub Base and Keyport. He also designed and engineered the first fiber optic cable laid between Orlando and Tampa, FL in the mid 80's. He was working for Sprint as an engineer out of their office in Poulsbo, WA when he retired in 1993. After retirement, he and his wife, Sue did a lot of traveling cross-country visiting friends and relatives. But his great love was working in his shop where he made many wonderful and useful things for family and friends. He was the "Mr. Fix-it Man" for all our friends and family. He was preceded in death by a son, Dale Johnston and a brother, Richard Johnston. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Sue; step-daughter Kim (Hagen) Brookbank of Belfair, WA; granddaughters Jennifer Engman of Yelm, WA and Robyn Brookbank of Tacoma, WA; great-grandchildren Alexia and Ayden Engman; brother, Sidney Johnston of Richmond Heights, NY, sisters Jeanette Sadler of Oakland, FL and Ina Walker of Umatilla, FL and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Orchard Pointe Memory Care Community for their care and support while Carlton was a resident. A Celebration of Life will be held at Orchard Bluff Mobile Home Park on Oct. 24th from 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Parkinson's Foundation or to your favorite charity.
