Lawrance Alfred Thornton Obituary (1915

Lawrance Alfred Thornton, age 87, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at Belmont Terrace in Bremerton, WA. Lawrance was born to Robert Joy and Ida Mae (Kinman) Thornton in Craig County, Oklahoma on June 7, 1915. Lawrance grew up in Craig County and graduated from High School in Enid, Oklahoma. He married Georgia Hills on October 30, 1938 in Coffeyville, Kansas. They were married for 52 years. They moved to Bremerton during WWII and Lawrence went to work at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a Boilermaker. He worked there until his retirement in 1972 and then went to work at Harrison Hospital as a steam plant engineer. Lawrance was a very active Christian and long time member of the First Baptist Church of Bremerton. He taught Sunday School for 50 years. Lawrence also worked for many years at the Bremerton Servicemen's Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia, in 1991, and by brothers Robert and James Thornton and sister, Ella Edmiston. Survivors include his sisters: Helen Morrow of Coffeyville, Kansas, Valjean Kellenberger of Claremore, Oklahoma and Letha Hughes of Peabody, Kansas; his son, Dennis Thornton of Bremerton, Washington; two daughters, Linda Wilkerson of Louisburg, Kansas and Julie Jackson of Salt Lake City, Utah; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
