Eitha Idell Vernon Obituary (1927

Vernon, Eitha (Hadix) Service Location: Bremerton First Christian Church Service Date: September 7, 2013 Eitha (Hadix) Vernon passed away into the arms of her savior on August 24, 2013 from uterine cancer at home in Silverdale, WA in the care of her family and Hospice. A celebration of her life will be held at 4:00pm on September 7, 2013 at First Christian Church, 811 Veneta Ave., Bremerton, Washington. Eitha leaves behind her husband of 61 years Loyd R. "Happy" Vernon, her daughter Janis Castle (Art) of Poulsbo, Washington, her son Randy Vernon of Poulsbo, Washington, her son Russell Vernon (Susan) of Fallbrook, California and her granddaughter Kayla Vernonclark of Encinitas, California. Eitha was born on Oct. 18, 1927 in Goodland, Kansas to her parents, John W. Hadix and June E. (Walters) Hadix. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Minerva and three brothers, Lloyd, Dave, and John E. Even before graduation from Sherman County High School in Goodland, Eitha began working for the Goodland Star News as a proofreader and news reporter. In 1950 she left and attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma for one and half years majoring in Religious Journalism. As a teenager, Eitha began attending Goodland First Christian Church. Here she found Jesus Christ and was baptized. She became active in the Christian Youth Fellowship which led to her meeting "Happy" Vernon at a Regional Youth Meeting in his home church in Oberlin, Kansas. They were married on January 27, 1952 in Goodland. Eitha's first career was as reporter, but her best career was as a wife, mother and homemaker and she never left any doubt in the minds of her children that she loved them and wanted the best for them. She gave birth to Janis, Randy and Russell, three children in four years. She worked outside of the home from time to time as a receptionist, substitute school cook, secretary and newspaper editor, but she loved working at home. She was at her best as a cook, hostess, encourager, chauffer, chaperone, den mother, Sunday school teacher, band booster, and fundraiser! No matter where Happy's job took the family, Eitha considered it an adventure and was always ready to make the move (even if her kids weren't so enthusiastic at first)! This took them from Kansas to Missouri to New York to Michigan to Illinois to Georgia and finally to Washington State. Everywhere they went Hap & Eitha joined a local Christian Church usually Disciple churches. She was very active in the Christian Women's Fellowship and became the Regional President in Georgia which took her to numerous Disciple churches all over the state. She was a faithful servant wherever God called her. Eitha was deeply loved by her family and will be missed, but they will join together in celebrating her life here on earth and in heaven. Memorials should be made to Bremerton First Christian Church.
